According to my students, last Tuesday was the International Day of the Clarinetist. ¿Has anyone in the US ever heard of this?

yep. Back when I was in high school, me and a few mates from my section got together and baked a "licorice" cake, since "licorice stick" is slang for clarinet (It was just premixed vanilla cake with licorice candies mixed throughout). We brought it to school and gave everyone in our section a slice. Our band director thought we were crazy, but we gave her a slice, too, so no harm done.

That being said, the only time you ever hear about this day in the US is when music websites are trying to offload their year-old clarinet accessory stock and need an excuse to create a sale.
