In an article, marcellus mentions that he has played the trio with lyn harrell and james levine..
does anyone know if it was recorded?

also, is there a recording of his copland?

He was contracted by (then) Columbia records to record the Brahms with them. Unfortunately his sudden retirement didn't allow him to fulfill the project. There are no taped copies of any live performance that I am aware of. Not sure that it was ever performed.

There is a video tape of Marcellus, Casals and Eugene Istomin playing the Brahms from the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico from the early 60's but is only available for viewing if one travels there. The video tape is part of the Casals library and does not circulate.

There is a taped recording of the Copland in possession of the Cleveland Orchestra but there are no copies or air-checks that I am aware of.

Marcellus's Brahms Trio and Copland Concerto are those great unobtainables. Everybody knows about them, but nobody seems to have them.

By the way, a few days ago I heard Drucker's Copland on the radio and was blown away. Even for him, he was in exceptional form.

Drucker has had several live Copland Concerto performances on the air over the years.
When I was younger I taped most everything that was on the radio.

Too young for the Marcellus stuff.

By crackey, I was around back in those Marcellus days, and I taped a few things, on miles and miles of reel-to-reel tape. I used to have Drucker's broadcast of the Nielsen Concerto, which was of course *much* more amazing than the LP, but a "friend" borrowed it and I never got it back.

Somebody pass me the Metamucil and some Geritol.
