 Recital Program, Thoughts?
Author: Sean.Perrin

I saw a similar thread and thought I'd see if anybody would like to offer their input on my program as well before I apply to have it approved later this week. It is an undergraduate senior recital program:

-----

Program:

Johannes Brahms
 - Op. 120 No. 1

Claude Debussy - Premiére Rhapsodie

INTERMISSION

Elliot Carter
 - Gra for solo clarinet

Arvo Pärt
 - Fratres for clarinet and piano (Arranged by myself for clarinet and piano, based on the version for violin and piano)

Richard Strauss
 - Till Eulenspiegel (Quintet version, of course)

Total: ~60 Minutes

-------

I have thought about moving Gra after Till Eulenspiegel as an "encore" piece, but I really like the idea of ending will Till... it is so great! I have also considered replacing Fratres with another "ethereal" contemporary work that is not a personal arrangement, such as the third movement of "Gnarly Buttons" (the version for Clarinet and Piano). The problem with this is that I'm not keen on the idea of it being played in isolation, and the piano version is nowhere near as good as the one for chamber orchestra. (I could have played the whole thing, but Till Eulenspiegel is far superior, IMO).

Any thoughts?

Why are you arranging the Part when there is already a version for clarinet and piano by the composer?
