 Fowler Music Service: O/H update
Author: musicmann
Date:   2005-06-29 01:44

I am pleased to announce that I received my clarinet back from Fowler Music Service.
Mr. Fowler's workmanship is first rate.
As mentioned they would do, they returned my full deposit. I did not accept this refund and returned the funds to Mr. Fowler. Irrespective of the excessive time element (ten months), it is only ethical and proper that he be compensated for his work efforts.
The plating, which Mr. Fowler considered to be less than perfect, is better than some factory platings I've seen.
The repaired cracks are almost invisible, the key action is tight and quiet, key heights and spring adjustments are even throughout and, intonation is dead on.
I'm happy to share that what had been a frustrating situation, turned out to be a positive experience.

Steve Fowler is truly one of the outstanding repair techs in this country.

I have a number of clarinets on which he has done work and the plating, craftsmanship, voicing, and set up is as good (if not better) than some of the big names which we all hear about.

Let's hope that Steve's health improves so that he can continue to do what he enjoys most ...GBK

I'm really glad to hear that this story had a happy ending.

I think you should have taken the refund, because of all their lying and deceiving. Now all they learned is they can lie and nothing bad will come from that.

Glad it worked out for you and both of you did the "right thing". Happy endings are always cool.

“Now all they learned is they can lie and nothing bad will come from that.”

Oh, good grief. Musicmann is doing business with Fowler, not taking him to raise. Besides that, Fowler has already had his dirty laundry spread all over the clarinet bulletin board. If he hasn’t learned something from that he is hopeless. It should be obvious to anybody that he has learned something.

Don’t criticize a person for being magnanimous. Sure, Musicmann would have been perfectly within his rights to keep the money, but he is showing some class by refusing it.

Besides, this might help Fowler get back on his feet. It benefits no one if he goes under. And if it should get to the point where he must leave the business, it would be better for all involved if he could end what has been a wonderful operation with grace and dignity.

One day you may screw up bigtime and your words will come back to haunt you.
