Is mp3 to midi impossible or... ?

This is not a new topic, I know. I've searched and searched here, there, and everywhere I can think of. I haven't found "the answer". My present burning desire is to transcribe to paper some harmony parts from a CD. There are "programs" advertised that will magically transpose audio, MP3, into MIDI and that extraordinary process allows printing the whole thing. Sounds wonderful and I suppose if it actually is possible it is wonderful. Problem is, however, that everything I've spent time downloading (as Trial Version) does not work. It either continually, repeatedly prompts me to download it or, if something does look promising, it just sits there grinning at me doing absolutely nothing.

The only thing that has proven functional so far is The Amazing Slowdowner. This of course does not print anything but does facilitate the old tried and true dictation method.

My question then is, whether anyone here has had any success with so-called converter programs, which ones (if any) actually do what they advertise --- or is it all hype?

I know we're all looking for something to make our tasks easier and better and faster. Has anyone found a way (product) to facilitate the transcribing chore?

Yes - there is a program which is **REALLY** accurate asto the harmonies. The Amazing Slowdowner helps as you can slow down the recording, but the one that I had (had as in I have to still replace it with on my new hard drive - lost the old one).

Again, it isn't very accurate at all for melody, but nails the harmonies quite easily.

I'll find what I have and link you to it.

http://www.akoff.com/download.html

Akoff Music Composer is the program

check out their samples (Guitar)

Wav : http://www.akoff.com/samples/guitar.wav

to MIDI

So of course after getting the program, I put in the Rite of Spring to "see what it did".

Uh, it didn't do too well.......

But for non complex stuff it really kicks. Will tell you a chord in a heartbeat.

I have had both that one and the widisoft one. I found that the akoff worked better and cost only $29 instead of over $50-$100
