 Cases

Hello Everyone,

I have a question regarding a case I've found on WWBW.

I am considering purchasing a new case that is more compact than the one I have currently, essentially I would like a double case that I can fit into a backpack. I have looked at the Buffet Pochette case and thought that would be a good one, but just as I was about to buy it, I stumbled upon the J. Winter double which is almost $200 cheaper. Of course I would like to save that extra money, but I do not want to sacrifice quality. I am guessing the Buffet case is more expensive because of the brand recognition, but I do not want to make a bad purchase.

My question to you all is, which one would you buy if you had the choice?! I would appreciate any tips!

Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend that type of case, though if you always put it in a backpack it's ok maybe. That type of latches tends not to last and after some time unable to close. First one side, eventually both. You will definitely find many people saying they never have a problem with these cases, sure, but I'd say a very significant % of people I know with them had the probem. I had it too. Actually seemed ok so the clarinet suddenly fell out.

Having also had clarinets fall out of cases because of poor latches I always use zippered cases any more. Protec make a good double case as does Bam.

I believe that my pochette case is the Winter. I have had it for around 20 years. I like the design as it is very compact and easy to carry. I have had absolutely no problem with it and the latches feel as secure as when i bought it. I would buy another without hesitation.

I believe that the Buffet is either leather or some type of leatherette covering. The interior fabric may be slightly nicer and I believe that it holds 4 barrels.
