I had a student show up one day with a McIntyre. An interesting clarinet (I would not want to play one but...). I can't remember if the throat tones were any better but as I recall, all were played with combinations of the LH fingers.

Jim -

The McIntyre system has come up several times. See:
http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=37401&t=37389
http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=49464&t=49419 and
http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=69345&t=69094#reply_69345

It's interesting and at least in theory somewhat better than the standard design, but it seems to me that the very complex keywork would get out of adjustment easily, and it would be unfamilair to repair shops. Most of all, it requires a big change in fingerings.

It's an interesting collector's item, but not much more. They appear on eBay every few months, so they're not a great rarity.

Best regards.

Ken Shaw

Do encourage him, Hank!! On back, I just had to own a McI, bought one off EBAY, not too costly, worked on it a bit, loaned it to John Butler for his curiousity, [TKS for improvements, J B]. Also have a Stubbins Noblet and a Bundy Mazzeo, but want THE Selmer Maz as in the patents, WOW. Have several full and "partially full" Boehms, like the Pete F's, and some golden oldies [1800's] including a playable Baermann-Ottensteiner, as discussed by Debbi Reeves in the current ICA Journal, TKS, DCR. I have patents "for" a Christensen cl and a Paladino Boehm oboe and some other"oddities" but am unable to find any real models, guess I tend toward the "exotics"! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
