I just got a great compliment!

I was at my music lesson on Thursday (maybe not JUST got it but now I have the time to share it!). I was showing my teacher how I had practiced over spring break (he nearly fell over when he heard that part) and that I had improved in the piece that I'm going to perform for my jury. It's my first semester of lessons, however he doesn't consider me a "first semester" student so instead of doing two musical etudes, he chose two parts of the mozart clarinet concerto for me to do. Rondo and the movement before it (my mind has completely blanked and I can't think of what it is called).

As I was practicing and playing the movement for him, he was just giving me tips on phrasing, telling me to play out more, crescendo more and more. When he stopped me to tell me something, a piano instructor walked in the room. He apologized to my teacher for interrupting and said that he just thought I was really good and offerrend to play the piano part for this movement if I ever wanted him to. So my teacher has now decided that for my first semester juries to show that the lessons were paying off, that instead of two musical etudes, I will perform a "mini recital" as he calls it for the those who grade me with this piano teacher playing the piano reductions to rondo and whatever.

I was pretty much beaming for the rest of the day and now am extra determined to practice in order to play it well. On a sidenote, I'm going to make another post. . . .

Hi sfalexi, congratulations!! It's always nice to hear good complements especially when one is first atarting out or hasn't been playing for very long.

I remember, about 45 years ago, after my 3rd or 4th lesson, that my teacher said I would have my own group someday. It never came to pass, but I still remember the feeling and it was wonderful!!

May I suggest that you internalize that feeling. That will affect your belief in your playing abilities and should help propel you forward when times get rough or extremely challenging.

I sense that as the years go by, you'll remember that moment for a long, long time.

Good luck.

Dan
