Bias: I occasionally use an elastic strap. I do so to take some weight off. Non elastic straps pretty much take all weight off, but only when their cord is fully extended. This latter class of straps seems to present a bit of an all or nothing proposition in weight support.
And my work with non-elastic straps has found it necessary to put a tiny bit of play in them such that they're not fully supportive of the weight when the clarinet is in playing position.
Something tells me that what might be ideal is also impractical, and might involve the use of multiple methods. For example, a strap that has elastic and cord might permit the instrument to float better with less weight, but present an absolute limit on how far the elastic can stretch.
And for those with injuries, some of the ideas of your third option, like Stephen Fox offers, might be best. http://www.sfoxclarinets.com/Accessories.html
