That's like the clarinet equivalent of using duct tape to fix your new Porsche...
On a serious note, I would not try to do a cheap and simple repair on a Rossi. Any compitent repair tech with a lathe could machine you a ring from a material such as Delrin or Ebonite. This will look far better than trying to make something from plumbing pipe.
