KDK, in another thread, wrote, "I always find this discussion relating to oiling or not oiling to be frustrating. I don't remember reading anything here that cited any kind of observational study of the actual effect of oiling."
Same holds true for posts about temperature control, swabbing mouthpieces, breaking in and storing reeds, oiling keys, and dozens of other things.
Most of the "rules" I see here about such things remind me of the old joke in which a guy is standing on a table yelling, "TIGERS, STAY AWAY!."
When someone asks, "Why are you yelling 'TIGERS, STAY AWAY!'? There isn't a tiger within a couple thousand miles," the guy on the table says, "Well, then it must work!."
Everyone talks, nobody really tests.
