So. I went for the gusto and purchased a Selmer Signet 100 from You Know Which Site. It arrived today, complete with an old Buffet chamois cloth and a truly disgusting mouthpiece.
My question is about the mouthpiece, marked Selmer / ELKHART, INDIANA / 3. Is it a Goldentone, even though it's not marked as such? Plastic or hard rubber (and how would I tell the difference?)?
Is it worth trying to bring back from the dead, or is it a doorstop? Attached photos to show how discolored it is. (I've given it an initial soak-n-scrub with vinegar and Q-tips.)
Thanks --
Beth
(P.S. The clarinet seems much, *much* better than my mom's old Bundy. Better intonation and richer sound. I'm taking it in to my tech tomorrow for a good going over -- new corks and pads and some regulation work, too.)
