I am using a new BD5 with legere 3.5 and I am really enjoying these 2 on the R13
But now I want to use harder cane reeds (together with Legere) I've tried the V12 3.5 but they are just too stiff out of the box .
My question to users of M15 -profile 88 or traditional for that matter , well, how do you find this mp .
I remember quite a few years back when I was playing on VD m30 , I tried out 5RV which has a little larger tip than the M15, and didnt like it as I got "small" and too focused a sound .
Unfortunately, I cannot try out as, where I live, no vendor keeps it .

It really depends on the person. I know some people who sound fine on the M15. For me personally, I find the sound far too brittle and thin.

For a small tip openning it is a decent mouthpiece. It features a medium/long facing so you need to take in more mouthpiece, but paired with the correct strength reed I found it to be quite nice (I like small tip opennings on mouthpieces).

So, to ask the obvious, if you're really enjoying the BD5/3.5 Legere combination, why do you want to use harder cane reeds on something else instead of whatever cane would work on the BD5? What improvement are you looking for?

I think that from what you have suggested here , I will probably remain with my present setup ,
To answer your question Karl , I want to use higher strength for better control and nice round tone that you get with harder reeds , the thing is that I quite get this sound with the Legere 3.5 but not at all with the v12 3.5 on the BD5 .
I'm slowly coming back to the conclusion from the past , that the Legers give me the best of all worlds, well, just about -(going up from high c is a little difficult with Legere , but I thought ,perhaps a smaller gap(m15) would also solve this issue
By the way, what do you think of profile 88 vz traditional in general , is it just a matter of convenience?

I don't especially like the sound that my mouthpiece produces with a V.12, either. I find the profile seems not to work well with the 1.00-1.03/17mm facings on all the mouthpieces I've used in the past several years. You might find a different brand or even a different Vandoren that gives you the ability to make the sound you want.

The only difference is the beak shape. It should be only a matter of comfort.

Part of the trick in finding the right Legere reed strength does have to do with the response of the highest notes. It is no secret that cane still has the best compliance and it is there that they shine over Legere in so far as the forgiveness they offer the player for his/her flaws. In other words, moving to a closer tip will not in it self make the plastic respond faster.
I just did a similar reply to someone that I cannot find (I have very little patience so if it was you....forgive the duplication):
I think that you may be enamored with a sound that is not quite right, a tone that lacks the correct upper partials, and in turn, the ability to sound warm at any distance (over five feet) and to project with little to no effort.
My general advice would be to go to your teacher or a peer that makes you say, "wow, I wish I could sound like that," and have them play right next to you and listen carefully to all the stuff that is in the sound up close.
In addition I would also suggest sticking with cane for at least a year before heading off into Legere land. As I said, getting the correct strength is MUCH trickier because it involves many factors and can take several weeks or months on one strength only to find that you need to tweak up another quarter strength (you want to start from a weaker reed and work your way up......too strong at the start just sounds muddy or even not at all).
