There is a preponderance of "State" or "All State" requirements that limit students' exposure to real music because they need to be competitive with their peers for the better seats. This is a mixed blessing I suppose, since some students will never get a chance to study with a private instructor at all.


As a student of some better teachers, I prefer to use the standard etude and solo repertoire fair for students when they are not all bumfuzzled with their All State nonsense.
