Stuffy Clarion B

Hello!

I recently got a few pads on my clarinet replaced, one of them being the register key pad. My upper register overall feels a bit stuffy compared to the past, but most apparently on third line B, where I hear much more air than compared to before. Does the thickness of the register key pad effect the sound quality of the clarion register? And if so should I just get a thinner pad?

To increase the pad height when open:
the cork under the touchpiece can be sanded, or made thinner, the key can be bent, and yes a thinner pad can be installed.

Also, with the key off I bevel the pad to near where the pad seat is. This alone can make a big difference.

Try taking off the register key to see whether that solves the problem. If so, then proceed with one of the methods that Steven mentioned.

And if simply removing the register key doesn't help, take it back to the repairer who did the work and let *him* figure out why it plays stuffier now than before.
