 Buffet E11 vs Jupiter 1100S

Hello! My 2 daughters have proven that they are sticking with the clarinet and I’ve decided to upgrade their current student models (Jupiter 637 and Yamaha 250). Im currently interested in the Buffet E11 and the Jupiter 1100S intermediate models. Both are around the same price so cost is not a factor in my decision. Both are wood. The Buffet has nickel plated keys and the Jupiter has silver plated keys, a raised C/G tone hole and a extra E flat key and a nicer thumb rest. I know that these frills aren’t necessary, however my daughters current ABS Jupiter includes the raised tone hole and she has really grown to love it. I know the E11 is a well known model and is great quality. That being said, I’ve been extremely impressed with my daughters student Jupiter and actually prefer it to my other daughters Yamaha 250. It’s a big purchase and I just want to make sure that we select a good model that will be with them for many years. Since the E11 is really popular, I’ve seen ample positive reviews online. Has anyone had experience with the Jupiter 1100S? Help! :)

IMHO the Jupiter 1100 is a fantastic instrument. The E11 is also good, but it is still a student level instrument even if it is made of wood. With all of the quality control issues Buffet has had in recent years I would personally go with the Jupiter.

That being said, it would be wise take your daughters to a music store to have them try out instruments for themselves. Everyone is different in what they like.

If you buy Buffet, carefully select from a number of instruments. I once had a pretty decent E11 in my hands, but this seems to vary especially with the lower end ones.
The Yamaha YCL 650 is an impressive instrument, but rather expensive in the US, maybe the 450 isn't too much of a downgrade?
There has been a very positive review of a Jupiter clarinet in a German magazine, so I guess they're worth checking out.

Congrats on having two kids who play the clarinet, there are so many beautiful duets out there :) Only buy online if you have the opportunity to send the instruments back, but driving to a music store l, even if it's farther away, seems in order.

Consider the Backun Beta in the fray. Costs same, but is better intonation and sound.
