The problem (as mentioned above) is that the plating, nickel especially, can get really slippery and then in "pops" off. I find a quality silver, leather, or almost any other material of ligature is a huge improvement. Affordable options exist by Rovner, Bonade, etc.
However, the absolute "stickiest" and most affordable ligature I've ever come across is the new 3D printed one from Pereira 3D. It's available in 8 colors and also includes a cap. I personally really love mine.
Only problem is reed adjustment/removal can be a bit of a trick, and the screw mechanism is rather basic. But it stays on great during mouthpiece changes from b-flat to A and also works wonderfully with plastic reeds.
