I'm curious about what school sites you've been to that specify a mouthpiece at all. Are these high school marching band websites telling their incoming students what equipment they must buy? I've heard of band directors misguidedly requiring that their students use specific mouthpieces, reeds, etc., but I've never personally heard of a local website in my area (suburban Philadelphia) that posts such requirements publicly on a web page.
If you're talking about websites of vendors who primarily target the school market, I hope that if you zero down to the details, most (at least the ones I've looked at) would describe the mouthpieces as Series 13 or Traditional. Many carry both, which would require that they be identified.
If the school band really plays at 440 (which in my experience would be a rarity), kids who own VD Traditional series mouthpieces would just have to pull their barrels out more. If a kid with a Series 13 VD finds himself consistently flat, he'll need to use a shorter barrel.
