I have a few questions concerning the Ridenour 147 low C bass clarinet.
First of all, does anybody have any problems with the register keys and vents? Mine (actually my school's) has a leak at the neck vent and I don't know what I can do about it besides take it to a repair shop. It seems that the key is actually too long and is overshooting the hole. This leaves the vent not centered on the pad.
Secondly, the C#/G# key gets in the way of my LH 3 when playing C or G. It's too close to the C/G key and too high up (higher than the pinky E/B). I don't know if it's bent or just not placed well.
Third, can the bell be put on straight without missing the low C lever? When I turn it so that it faces forward, it is already off of the lever. If I put it within a cm of the edge of the lever it will come off.
Fourth and finally, the lower the notes are played, the more keys rattle. I suspect that it is the throat keys, the side trill keys, and the C#/G# key (yes, ANOTHER problem with it). Is there an easy way to solve this problem?
Seeing that this is a school instrument, I can't do all the things I'd like to do with it like bend keys or reseat pads or anything like that.
