Anyone have experience of these?
I've heard they're lightweight and - unusually, so far as I can find - they do them to fit a single A clarinet. But I couldn't find anything when searching the BB.
Opinions?

Hi,
I've bought an ortola case togehter with my clarinet, because I rent the clarinet first and my dealer mentioned, that it's much cheaper to buy an ortola then to replace a "probably damaged" original B&C case, so I get it w/o knowing anything about clarinets, cases, ...
It has a full size compartment bag in front so it's more thickly than a common clarinet case, and it's a bit larger in length and so of course shorter in width. In my case you need to put the bottom part and the bell in one peace in the case, not such good, but on the other hand it's perfect to place this small stand inside.
It has a very soft lining, but a rather durable frame and a heavy duty nylon(?) skin. I use this cas very often inside of a case of my motor bike, even for longer travel w/o any probs with the clarinet after, I place this case for several times in big duffles when travelling around by train / car / ... all again w/o any prob.
So I really can recommend an ortola case, but sorry I've a Bb clarinet and I really don't know if an A clarinet fits in.

Maybe I can help you.
The music store I work for sells Ortola cases. But don't have any A clarinets in stock.
What are the demensions of the upper and lower pieces?

Deb - thanks very much for the offer. I'd assumed they'd do different cases for Bb and A, but perhaps they just have stretchy slots. If you're able to check, that's be really helpful. The upper joint of the A is 24cm from cork-tip to cork-tip; the lower joint is 27.5cm.
Haegar - thanks for the commentary on the quality of the case - that's reassuring.

Clare,
Thanks for sending the dimensions. Your A will fit in three Ortola clarinet cases! Models 181, 186 and 187.
I recommend 186 as it has better space for your A. The other two will fit the A but may be tight as they are smaller. The 186 has a slot for accessories, two tone barrel slots, a mouthpiece slot, etc. it also has a two pockets on the outside.
Sounds like I'm a Ortola representative?!?!? I actually use the 186 myself. I can fit my note stand in the larger pocket and my clarinet stand in the smaller plus my music. I like it because it also has straps to convert it to a backpack. I use a Blayman clarinet stand (really sturdy AND HEAVY!!!) so carrying it on my back is a lot easier!

The numbers you're quoting (186 etc) don't tally with the product references in shops over here (UK) - I don't suppose you know of anywhere I can view the cases online so I can make the connection between the references you've given me and what the things will look like in the shop?

I just wanted to let you know that I received an email from Spain that confirmed the 186 bag will fit the A clarinet!
It's a great bag and they aren't expensive!
