Conductors must be judged differently. Their gestures are intended to
convey instructions to the players, although certainly an element of
showmanship is also involved (I do some conducting myself, so I know). I've
never seen a conductor gesture to the point of being distracting, though,
whereas Meyer's gyrations look contrived and overdone and VERY distracting
to me. Frost's squirming, even if genuine, ought to be controlled. It may
not be phony, but it makes me uncomfortable watching him. Meyer and Frost
both have excellent playing qualities highly suitable for RADIO and
RECORDING. For live performance and TV? Not so much.
