 Why not just enjoy as much music as diverts you - no need for making
 sweeping judgements. Is ALL Shostakovitch "better" than ALL Mozart? - I
 don't think so. Different certainly.
 
 Be equally wary of the opposite view that all modern music is an unmusical
 cacophony - that is patently not true.
 
 I always think it best to avoid joining one or other fixed positions - you
 miss so much.
 
 I have heard young professionals being very scathing of baroque composers -
 "the music is boring and too easy". Much is easy on the ear and to read but
 is difficulty the only measure of worth in music?

 But within the realm of "Classical" - I'll take Shostakovich or
 Stravinsky, or even Penderecki over Mozart any day.
