Subj: [kl] Breathtaking orchestral performance

The classical TV broadcasting channel (offered free and at random times)
shows a lot of this and lot of that, opera, chamber music, ballet,
orchestras, etc.

Saturday evening I happened to tune in to the channel and there were the
Israel philharmonic and the Berlin philharmonic both sharing the same stage
in Tel Aviv with Zubin Mehta conducting.

Because the Berlin orchestra represented the guests and the Israel phil. the
home team, it appeared to me that the Berlin members were all given first
chair positions. It was a nice gesture.

The work played was the final movement of the Beethoven 5, and it was a
SMASHING performanance. There were about 160 players on stage, and all
great. The really cranked up energy and the finale was something you would
want to stand up for. The fact that the two orchestras were th IPO and the
BPO added a poignant moment considering the historical circumstances.

It was a great moment.
