<<<One night, I was playing jazz tenor/clarinet with Duke Belaire's
night band at Bovi's Town Tavern, in Providence, RI, when a pretty young

lady came up to me and asked, "Can you play In The Mood when you get
back on=20
the stand?>>>

As you may know, at Preservation Hall in New Orleans, the band had a
sign above the bandstand: "Requests: traditional Dixieland, $1;
others, $2; "Saints," $10." They have played "When the Saints Go
Marching In" so many times that it is difficult for them to play it
again without regurgitating.

I was once with a group of people at Preservation Hall, and a couple of
us were talking with the leader of the band at intermission, when he
asked, "Is there anything you would like to hear during the next set."
Much to my surprise and embarrassment, my friend asked for "Saints!" I
couldn't help saying, "Oh, no, we don't want to hear that!", and then I
asked for some other standard Dixieland number, I think it was "Royal
Garden Blues." My non-musician friend couldn't understand why I had
overruled his request, but I expect all the musicians on this list will
understand it.
