I posted about mini-disc recorders earlier:

"I have a Sony mini-disc recorder, and though it is very portable and
produces pretty good recordings, the transfer process is not very good. With
the newer hi-md recorders they claim to have overcome the problems of the
transfer software, but I have also heard that Sony is planning to stop
production in the near future. Since MD recording is proprietary technology,
they are the only company to support it, and I suspect once they are no
longer making the MD recorders and players the support will dwindle fast.
It's too bad that the MD didn't take hold on the market place like the mp3
players did. It really is a pretty good medium for quality of recording and
playback, and the discs hold a lot of music."

In addition, I have found that there really is little control over the level
controls with
the portable recorder I have. There was a "professional" model that was
meant more
for live recording use, with control for levels, but that model stopped
production some time ago.
Sony's built in anti-piracy controls meant that you could not upload on my
earlier portable
model without erasing the original. All in all, I agree that it is a
technology that will soon
go the way of the 8-track!
