I'm working on a piece right now in which the 2nd violin doubles the 1st
violin an octave below. Of course, such a structure is easy to sequence
because of the copy, paste and octave adjustment functions, but in my mind,
except in rare cases, it is bullshit pure and simple. I have caught Mozart
doing that on occasion, not very often, but when I do I have to laugh about
the poor guy being exhausted and saying to himself, "I have to wrap up this
thing. I'll just double up some instruments here and there."

Are you offering any concerts in Paris between June 1 and June 30 or in
London between July 1 and July 10. My wife and I will be occupying our
regular digs at that time.
