The current issue of The Clarinet (the journal of the International
Clarinet Association) has a feature article about Emily Bernstein,
written by editor Jim Gillespie as part of the "Who was that
clarinetist" series about film musicians. Emily has had a long and
illustrious career in film music, but learned during the recording of
The Terminal that she was suffering from a serious and likely
terminal illness. The Terminal recording may well be her last
performance. By all means, buy the soundtrack CD--it's some of the
best clarinet playing you will hear on record.
