I stand corrected. But it was Mundy's arrangement of the tune for Goodman,
with the quote from "Christopher Columbus," that achieved fame. They did
not think much of it after first running through it in rehearsal, until
Krupa continued the ostinato drum riff and they started taking solos. It
then grew into a signature piece, generally played at the climax of the
program.
