Erik,

No one is paying to watch my fictitious Outer Mongolia Community Band, either.

Do not confuse my views about community musicians with my views of
professional musicians and music students. My position, in the context of
this conversation, is specifically on the playing habits of community band
members.

I would be most disturbed if I bought tickets to Wimbeldon and was treated
to players of my own rank and caliber. If I went to local tennis courts to
watch random people play without being charged admission, I certainly
wouldn't run around criticizing them and telling them "if only you took
some lessons, you could be so much better".

You get what you pay for, this much is universal.
