Subj: [kl] 45 million people
Date: Thu, 26 Aug 2004 15:48:58 -0400

A few weeks ago, I wrote a note to the list, complaining about the acute
crisis in health insurance in the United States, and the apparent
of the current administration to the plight of millions of Americans.

I said that it should be a national scandal that 43 million people were
without health insurance (and therefore limited access to health care).

Apparently, I was wrong, there are not 43 million people in the U.S.
health insurance.

There are 45 million.

This clipping was forwarded to me by a friend at Hewitt Associates, a major
employee benefits consulting firm -

"The U.S. Census Bureau August 26 released a report, "2003 Income, Poverty
and Health Insurance (CPS Report) and Data from the American Community
(ACS)", finding the number of uninsured in the U.S. reached 45 million in
2003, a 3.2% increase over the 43.6 million people without insurance in
2002. The
decline in coverage in employer-sponsored health insurance coverage is
mostly responsible for the drop in coverage, from 69.6% to 68.6% in 2003."
