Probably you've read about the experiment, done years ago, wherein the
tip of a reed was photographed as it vibrated. This experiment showed
that the reed does, in fact, close the air channel completely during
each cycle.

With modern technology, perhaps there is a similar but 'higher
resolution' method of measuring whether other portions of the reed move?
