Now, now Nancy, that's not always true. I have seen plenty of students come through here with Buffet clarinets and Hawkins or Greg Smith mouthpieces. I know parents who bought their child a Buffet 1193, another got a flute with a gold head joint.
I live in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago, an affluent area. I don't see the kids playing on junk. In fact, I wonder if the kids actually realize how very very fortunate they are.
