My grandson, who enters the music ed. program at university in a couple of
months, decided, after a couple of years playing school-owned euphniums
(transplanted from trumpet) that he wanted to stay on the euphonium and
major in low brass. We decided to buy him a pro instrument as a graduation

I used WWBW's website (plus a few others) to research the brands & models
that he & his band director suggested. Then I called WWBW and asked for a
low brass specialist. I had a little problem getting him, but finally found
out that in addition to serving at the store, he goes out to the schools to
help fix low brass problems. Once I got him, we talked a while, he made a
few suggestions, most of which I liked. He quoted me a price that was about
1/3 less than list price. I told him that I thought we had a deal, but I had
to discuss it with my daughter, just to make sure. (It helps the moods to
keep everybody included, whether they have any practical knowlege. <g>)

When I called him back, he was, of course, out again. I left my number and
name with the trumpet man, who said, "Oh, he went into the factory and
picked out one he thought you would like. It's setting by his desk." I
gave them my CC#, and received the horn by FedEx the next day. When I
unpacked it, I figured we had a winner. Outer box filled with styrofoam
beans; inner box filled with beans; case double wrapped in bubblewrap and
taped, and a note inside the case saying if there was any problem to let him
know, giving his cell phone # written on his card.

All this, I guess, to say the internet is a good tool. Buying books and
music and DVDs and T-shirts direct is fine. There's a small chance of
problems, of course, but I would hesitate sending several thousand dollars,
without some personal dealings.
