Bill,

My apologies for those previous questions I had in that case. Just with
the instruments I'm already used to, this idea of reeds, mouthpieces and
ligatures been completely a *personal* choice was strange to me at
first.

With an acoustic guitar for instance, although some people might prefer
a particular brand of string, generally speaking some brands are
definitely better than others and you can safely recommend them due to
their superior quality.

I initially thought it would be the same with the clarinet, that some
reeds (Or mouthpieces) would stand out and be an obvious choice to try
first to see if you like.

However, I am now proved wrong, so like I say, I've ordered a large
selection of reeds to see which I like.

Robert, I apologize for my rude reply. It's just that the "Which Is
Best?" question gets asked *so* often, and there's only one answer ---
namely, that it's different for each person and the only way to know is
to try them yourself.

The way that you worded your question indicates that you know this
already, and hence my wisecrack was unjustified. Also, each time that
the question is answered, some interesting bit of information can pop up
--- such as that plastic mouthpieces aren't "crystal", that glass
mouthpieces can be resurfaced, and so forth. So the conversation isn't
wasted.

Neverthless, for a while at least, I'm adding a tagline to my signature.
Perhaps it will forestall a few repetitions of the question.

Cheers, and my apology again,
Bill

If I had Stadler's mouthpiece, would I play better? Or do I need his
ligature also? Or perhaps he and I are different persons? If I had
Mozart's pen, would I compose better?
