 Greetings Jean Marie,

Welcome to the list. Luckily for me, I was fortunate to have nice
clarinet teachers while growing up. I remember asking my first teacher
from when I was in the 4th grade, "What number reed do you use?" He
replied, "A five. Don't worry about that right now. Two and two and a
half is the strength beginners need to start with." I then asked him,
"what would a ten be like?" He said laughed and said, "It would be like
a Popsicle-stick." I still smile at that particular memory while
reflecting back.... *sniff* Those were the good old days.

 Cheers,
 ~Sirius
