Tony, I have a lot of good insight into musical issues because of my
experiences with people and the vast array of different types of gigs
that I play. But I am terrible at debates. If I were on a televised
debate team with any number of people on our Klarinet List, I would
probably end up weeping and sniffling, having to be carried off the set.
For some reason it doesn't bother me all that much when people talk
about "standards" in music because I love it so much, and I am really
fed up with all the crap I have had to play at many of my performances.
I am really glad that you brought up the topic. I had a lot of trouble
trying to state my feelings about "popular" music. I am not a musical
snob or an elitist, but I agree with you 100% about popular music. I
personally, like Emily, would be bored to death if I had to listen to
Paul McCartney sing and play his guitar all night. I am glad that the
Beatles came along and helped change my feelings about the world we live
in, but that doesn't mean I have to look up to Paul McCartney as a role
model for singing and playing his instrument. My husband is a wonderful
singer, guitarist and entertainer, and he has noticed that about many of
the popular male singers and guitarists. ANNIE
