Subj: [kl] 1st annual Sneezy.Org clarinet competition

Just a quick note ...

There will be a clarinet competition sponsored by Sneezy.Org with entries due by (most probably) mid September. I'm finalizing details now and will post complete details within the next couple of weeks or so, but here's what we've got so far for those of you wishing to compete:

Judges:
Gregory Smith of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Forest Aten of the Dallas Opera

Music:
La Forza del Destino (the long solo - pg. 76 I believe)
The Devil's Dance from Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale
2 contemporary pieces

All music required for this competition will be available _for free_ from the Sneezy Website. Ben Armato is providing the Verdi from his Operatic Excerpts book, and John Gibson of JB Linear Music is providing the Stravinsky. I have contacted two composer acquaintences of mine for the two contemporary selections; I am awaiting their responses.

All amateurs and students are welcome to participate in the contest. There are no age brackets for this 1st competition.

All entries will be via cassette tape or CD, no exceptions. The quality of the recording will affect the decision of the judges.

1st Prize will be a minimum of $500 USD, 2nd Prize a minimum of $250 USD. If any of you who have music related business would like to contribute something towards the 1st and 2nd prizes please contact me via email.

There will be a small entry fee required, probably in the neighborhood of $10 USD.

Direct relatives of the judges and I are not eligible for the competition.

Something to keep all you students and amateurs focused during the summer "off" season ;^)

"Yes, Jerry ... the bell would fill with water. (un)Fortunately, this does
not affect the way a sax sounds." - Fred (postings on the Clarinet BBoard)
