Who said he was a jerk?
I just reported what I experienced with him.

Not at all at variance, any of this, with the notion that what is
interesting to Perlman, when push comes to shove, is how he personally
comes over to the audience.

Not bad, or a jerk -- just capable of what I described him to have done.
