My own opinion of these pads is not as high as some of my colleagues. I
purchased a new Festival Buffet A Clarinet which came with Gortex pads and
after about a month decided I could stand the "spongy or squishy" nature of
the pad. To clarify, there seems to be a bit of elasticity which makes them
feel like overstuffed pillows. While they did seal I could never get used to
the feel of them. I had my repairman Tim Clark replace them with the white
leather pads that he uses, which seemed flatter and sealed more immediately.
I imagine that it was a personal discomfort that I felt when depressing the
keys for the long B/E and C/F. The pad under the rings on the right hand
bothered me the most, since the pad allowed for too much deviation in the
ring height.
