I agree Sue. Years ago, when I was a student at Michigan State University,
we organized a similar project for clarinet players (students and pros) in
Armenia. We would save the reeds that did not play for us and send them
over (a case at a time!!!) there to some VERY appreciative clarinet players.
Apparently, their professional players were playing on instruments such as
Selmer Signets and the like, which of course are student instruments, but
you wouldn't believe the sound that they got. Guess this proves that it's
not ALL in the equipment. If someone in a University position would care to
follow up and organize a potential relationship with a school there, I'd be
happy to give reeds and a few old mouthpieces I've got laying around the
house. Thanks!
