It oughtn't. Music has the capacity to both emobody and elicit all of
these emotions and more. People are passionate about music, not just when
listening and performing, but when discussing (as opposed to dissing and
cussing) as well. Opinions form. Lines are drawn. Subjects take on a
life of their own and bring out the best & worst of our individual and
collective humanities. If music weren't able to incite and inspire this
full range of emotions and reactions, it would hardly be a universal art
form. So don't be sad that things like anger, envy, jealousy, etc. pop
up in the context of music. Rather, recognize that these are as much a
part of human existence -- and the music that we create -- as the seem-
ingly more positive and pleasant counterparts (e.g.; peace, joy, rever-
ence, etc.). Art imitates life imitates art.
