My eefer sounds pretty good one or two notes into the altissimo. I suspect that having the right mpc & reed combination is very important to having good tone top to bottom.

Why write high parts for the eefer? I like the sound of the lower register for blues and folk, but I seldom play where there are any other clarinets. If the eefer is simply playing the same notes as the Bb clarinets, it might simply muddy the tone rather than broadening it.
Just a guess. Hey, the cymbal player in the marching band could use brushes, but that's not what she's there for.
