Check out the CD's: Soaring, Funupmanship, Jewels. I have had the opportunity
for 2 years to play some of these charts with a local band that had a tenor
player that was a member of the florence band for a while. I heard his father
also played in the group. He was an AWESOME soloist. Heard him do a 15 minute
solo on some Parker tune where he started with just a germ of a theme and
developed it into a full-fleged composition, similar to what a classical
composer does with a theme to develop a symphony. All the tunes on the albums
are good and so are the players. The charts really keep you on your toes. It's
really nice to be able to play something that keeps you awake and be with others
of your own caliber. Be sure to check out the personnel on each CD as it
changes a little.
