In the UK we have the Telephone Preference Service. We can simply register
our telephone number in their database, and most companies doing
telemarketing do not contact us. It's like us saying that we will never
respond positively to a telemarketing call, and so the companies realise
that they are wasting their resources in phoning us. I only get such calls
from companies I'm doing some sort of business with (our telephone provider,
my bank etc.)
