Ann, I wish I could do what you have done, and leave the Mozart alone for a
year - actually more like several hundred years. I am struggling with the
first movement. I too am reading Tony's excellent article, and it is
enlightening, yet I cannot make my physical apparatus unlearn some of the
awful habits I learned my first year or two in college (the Romanticising
of the concerto that has been spoken against so often here on the list and
elsewhere). It is so hard to unlearn those old habits!!!
David Niethamer has worked with me ever so patiently on this concerto -
thanks David!!! Have fun in OK!! - and I try to put into practice what he
recommends. And I will be ordering the ONLY edition worth having in a few
weeks when I have the $$ to pay for it (LOL - it is, admittedly, more
difficult using an edition that has to be un-edited every measure!!)
So thanks, Ann, for letting me know there is a light at the end of the
tunnel!!
I think once I get into graduate school, I will not play that concerto
again, ever!
Okay, enough ranting and raving; back to practicing - I do not wish for
David to lose patience with me...I might have to get a job or something.
Patty Smith
