The work was commissioned by the French State
(The remainder is a straightforward description of the 4 movements)

Ida-Rose Esther Gotkovsky was born at Calais on August 26, 1933
Pianist and composer. Daughter of the violinist Jacques Gotkovsky
Her sister Nell (1939-) is also a violinist, (pupil of Rostal, Galamian,
Ida G studied at the Paris Conservatoire
under Gallon, Aubin, Messiaen, Nadia Boulanger
Her prizes included
1958 Prix Blumenthal
1959 Prix Pasdeloup
1961 Prix de Composition International de Divonne les Bains
1963 Medaille de la Ville de Paris
1967 Prix Lily Boulanger
Grand Prix Musical de Ville de Paris
2 Prix de l'Institute de France
Golden Rose (USA)
