Subject: John Adams Concert/April in Santa Cruz

April in Santa Cruz comes to the conclusion of its 1999 season on
Wednesday, April 28, with a concert of music by <bold>John Adams</bold>
and others.

Grawemeyer Award-winning composer <bold>JOHN ADAMS</bold> appears at a
special pre-concert talk to discuss his Grammy-nominated clarinet
concerto <bold>"Gnarly Buttons,"</bold> to be performed by clarinetist
John Sackett and the California Parallele Ensemble, conducted by Nicole
Paiement.

Also featured on Wednesday's program:

<bold>Edmund Campion</bold>'s Losing Touch for vibraphone and tape

<bold>Paul Nauert</bold>'s Spirit for flute and percussion (Premiere)

<bold>Pablo Ortiz</bold>' Milonguitas for bass clarinet

<bold>Peter Josheff</bold>'s Ballad at Gunpoint and Leaves for
clarinet & piano

<bold>Hi Kyung Kim</bold>'s Instant Breath for flute (Premiere)

Artists include Leta Miller, flute; William Winant, percussion; Karen
Rosenak, piano; and Peter Josheff, bass clarinet/clarinet
