Whoa! There was then and continues to be a difference between physicians
and scientists. Physicians are reputed to have bled GW to death. There are
some physicians who are also scientists, but when they treat a patient they
are (certainly) doing so in their legal role as physicians, and (usually)
without their scientific hat. The bleeding which was so popular at that
time was part of what we might call "the religion of medicine" for want of a
better term. I think we have improved on that, although I suspect that Dr.
Goldman, for one, would agree that medical practice is not completely
scientific at present, and probably that this is not a desirable goal.
