AFAIK there is no score with the natural sign.

If you wanted to be really sure that an E natural is intended, I suppose
your best bet would be to find an old recording that it was certain
Poulenc heard. Perhaps someone knows of one?

For myself, it was sufficient to try it a few times with an E# to be
convinced that that the natural was intended. Indeed, without even
having heard the piece, I had always 'naturally' played an E natural:-)
until the inconsistency you point out surfaced for a few seconds one
day.

This is not to say that you cannot get used to (and sometimes even ever
afterwards want to play, cf the last few bars of the Debussy Rhapsodie),
an error. But in this case I personally have no doubt. (Well,
vanishingly small doubt, anyway. I might even go so far as to say that
if Poulenc wanted an E#, he was *wrong*.)
