Hi, I was forwarded a message on your list by two people, because I know
something about the topic under discussion, and tried to respond to the
Klarinet list. This failed because I am not a subscriber (perhaps I'll
join for a while but that's another issue).

You can go ahead and post this attached message if you like.

 Subject: more, Benade's NX clarinet

My understanding is that a first, then as second, NX clarinet were
constructed. The first NX clarinet is the instrument that Art Benade
made measurements on that were reported in the cited article. The two
clarinets were somewhat different in design, as Art Benade had conferred
often with George Jameson over the years, and George had some ideas on
improving mechanism that Art approved of. My impression is that the
changes in mechanism in the second NX had some influence on the
acoustics, but I don't know any specifics. The alterations comprising
the second NX clarinet were made by George Jameson following the death
of Art Benade. George Jameson passed away several years ago. There
have been no steps to commercialize these designs, although I have
listened to, and played, the first NX clarinet; it is a remarkable
 instrument.

Besides the references, the other significant source of information on
the NX clarinet is found in the web archives of Arthur H. Benade in the
Stanford University Musical Acoustics Research Library at:

Persons interested in the NX clarinet are encouraged to consult this
 collection.
